Queer and Trans Comité
IAJE's Queer and Trans Comité is a dedicated space for building power among LGBTQ+ immigrant communities in Mississippi. Through community-led initiatives, we address the unique challenges faced by queer and trans immigrants who often navigate multiple intersecting identities. Our Comité creates affirming spaces where community members can embrace their full selves without compromise, celebrating both their cultural heritage and LGBTQ+ identity.
We Are Not Competition, We Are Resistance
At the intersection of several key IAJE initiatives, our Queer and Trans Comité focuses on:
Healthcare Access: Advocating for HIV prevention/treatment and queer and trans affirming healthcare
Community Building: Creating safe spaces for connection and solidarity among LGBTQ+ immigrants
Cultural Celebration: Hosting events like Queerceañera that honor the intersection of LGBTQ+ and immigrant identities
Education and Empowerment: Providing workshops and resources tailored to the needs of our community members
