Congressional Updates

Status: Second Week of Congressional Recess

Key Legislative Developments

  • Reconciliation process has begun - Step One passed before recess

  • Draft bills expected to be released next Monday

  • Proposed legislation includes defunding of Civil Rights Offices

  • Lobby Day scheduled for May 14th in Washington DC

Administrative Policies

  • TPS Status Changes: Administration is ending Temporary Protected Status for individuals from Cameroon and Afghanistan

  • Update: Previously announced April 24 blanket termination will not take effect

Registration Requirements

Executive Order 14159 - "Protecting the American People Against Invasion" (January 20, 2025)

  • Registration rules are now in effect as of April 11, 2025

  • Requirements:

    • All non-citizens 14+ years old must register if staying 30+ days

    • Parents/guardians must register children under 14

    • Re-registration required within 30 days of turning 14

Enforcement Updates

  • Early enforcement cases reported in Arizona

  • Initial violations being treated as minor infractions
